The best kite-surfers in the world are coming to the land of winds
Preá Beach, Brazil, will host the sixth and final stage of the GKA (Global Kite-sport Association) World Tour from 12 to 16 November 2019. This major sporting event is co-organised by 213 Sports, e-group and GL events.
In this Strapless World Kite-surfing Championship, the competitors are not attached to their boards by any straps. They must use the pressure of the wind to control their board and perform some impressive tricks, such as: complete turns in the air (360-degree aerials), and horizontal spins after which they must pass the bar behind their back (S-Bend Pass). Their performances are assessed and judged by the ambassadors of the GKA, the World Sailing Federation, the CBVela (Brazilian Sailing Federation) and ABK (Brazilian Kite Association);
This year, 38 participants, including 8 women, from 16 different countries, will compete for the world title in the strong, constant winds of the Ceará region.
The biggest names in the sport are expected at the event, including Airton Cozzolino, Matchu Lopes and Mitu Monteiro from Cape Verde, as well as the up-and-coming Brazilians Sebastian Ribeiro and Pedro Matos. France will also be well represented by Camille Delannoy and Ralph Boelen in the men's event and Charlotte Carpentier and Capucine Delannoy in the women's event.
