Promoting good food and gastronomy around Lyon.
The first Biennale Internationale du Goût (BIG [Biennial International Festival of good food and taste]) was a great success in 2015. Indeed, the people of Lyon actively bought into the event, whose idea is to promote good food and gastronomy around the city during the SIRHA (The International Food Services Fair).
Based on this initial success, GL events - the organiser of the event - has decided to take the idea even further in 2017. The underlying concept is still the same: sharing, conviviality and generosity are still at the heart of the festival.
From 20 to 25 January, the general public will be able to enjoy a rich and varied programme of activities. The flagship event of BIG will take place in the “Tunnel du Goût” (Tunnel of Taste) organised in the soft-transport tunnel of the Croix Rousse district. The world of good food and gastronomy will be moving into this original venue, which attracted the curiosity many local foodies in 2015; indeed, the experience was even more successful than the organisers had imagined. This year, in order to meet the public’s expectations, the stalls in the “Tunnel of Taste” will be open for longer periods, with a new format. The security has been reinforced, with twice as many visitors expected. The “Tunnel of Taste” will be divided into two distinct areas, accessible on reservation only. On the Rhône side of the tunnel, the BIG market will be open from midday to midnight with 6 different timeslots. On the Saône side of the tunnel the Grande Tablée (Big Eatery) will serve meals at midday and 9pm.
The festival comprises 11 events that will take place around Lyon. These include the attempt to break the record for the longest “praline” brioche in the world, the gourmet cinema evening at the Lyon Confluence shopping centre, the "Haute Gastronomie Contemporaine" (Modern top gastronomy) auctions at the “Puces du Canal” (Flea-market on the Canal) , the “BIG Festiv'Halles” tasting sessions at the “Halles de Lyon - Paul Bocuse” (Covered market), the BIG Food & Fashion Show in the brand new Matmut Stadium in the Gerland district, the tasting circuit in the “Presqu'île” district and the special children’s day.
A total of 43 restaurants around the city have BIG accreditations. They will be proposing a special menu or event during the festival. Some tasty celebrations in store!
